In the projects below, you will see how I grew sculptures using liquid mycelium culture. I incubated the mycelium culture on various substrates and put them into different molds to create forms made out of mycelium. Ecovative sold me my first kit which inspired me to experiment and create my own contribution to a sustainable art ecosystem you can see here.
Mycelium is an organic reusable, recyclable dense fiber that enriches the soil it inhibits. Germinated from mushroom spores and cultures, Mycelium is a branching network of hyphae that moves toward and within a food source (substrate) acting as a decomposer. The outer cell wall of the mycelium is rigid, so it makes a for a perfect sculpture material if grown under the right circumstances. Without a sterile lab, I was able to create the following.
